Nigh Fly Rods is more than a Custom Fly Rod Shop. It represents a 40-year love affair fishing with bamboo. With over 30 years of rod building experience, all rods are made in my shop. I do not import pre-made blanks or take any shortcuts.
All the steps involved with making your rod, with the exception of hardware, are not supervised by me…. they are accomplished by me.
My shop is a full time endeavor, a passion, not a hobby. As such, great care is taken in providing the finest materials and components available with an emphasis on meticulous workmanship. I would rather “trash” a rod than ship you something I would be ashamed to put my name on. The waiting period may seem a bit lengthy to some, but I am sure you will agree that the wait was well worth it.
With that said, my rods are made to be fished. It would disappoint me greatly to learn that one of my rods never made it to water or was never bent to the weight of a fish.
Why a Custom Rod?
For most people, a custom split cane fly rod is no small investment and is often viewed as something that will be handed down through your family.
When you receive the rod I have made for you, it is truly your rod. You are involved in all aspects of rod design, especially the cosmetic aspects. In short, you end up with a rod that can’t be purchased anywhere. Your rod becomes a “one of a kind” creation that you helped create. You’re the designer; I’m merely the craftsman following your instructions.
Let’s Talk…
I seldom have rods in stock. My custom work keeps me busy enough. You should feel free, however, to contact me about availability but don’t be disappointed if none are available. When I do have a rod or two in stock, they have been made to my specifications and are sold “as is”. They are not “custom” in any way but I dare say you’d be hard pressed to find another rod like it. Since my shop is a custom rod shop, rods are not usually started until the customer’s specifications are agreed upon.
